The ARRL Colorado Section announces a significant leadership change within the Colorado Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES). After years of dedicated service, James Cizek, KI0KN, has resigned from his role as Section Emergency Coordinator (SEC). Since stepping into the position in 2020, James has played a vital role in shaping Colorado ARES, demonstrating unwavering commitment amidst professional and personal responsibilities. His leadership, especially during the complex era following the introduction of HB-1040 and the creation of AuxComm, is deeply appreciated.

In line with evolving operational needs, The MOU between Colorado ARES and Colorado AuxComm has been rescinded. Importantly, ARES leadership will no longer be required to hold an AuxComm certification, and vice versa. Volunteers are welcome to participate in both organizations if they wish, but no longer mandated to do so.

With James’s departure, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Perry Lundquist, W6AUN, as the new Section Emergency Coordinator for Colorado ARES. Perry brings nearly 30 years of experience in amateur radio and emergency communications. His extensive service includes roles as ARES District and Regional Emergency Coordinator, State Training Officer, and COML with the Douglas County IMT. His hands-on leadership during significant incidents like the 2021 Marshall Fire, along with his deep technical knowledge and public service background, make him exceptionally well-suited to guide Colorado ARES into the future.

Please join us in expressing gratitude to James Cizek for his years of leadership and in welcoming Perry Lundquist to his new role.
